Story: In the Showa (昭和) era, about 10–20 years after World War II, Japan’s tea industry turned its focus to black tea as part of a national effort to earn foreign currency, leading to extensive cultivar research and experimentation. However, as free trade expanded, cheaper foreign black teas flooded the market while domestic demand for green tea grew. The export dream soon faded, and most black-tea cultivars were replaced with green-tea varieties. This Showa Dream is crafted from those cultivars — once expected to be Japan’s ace for the foreign market — reviving the rare taste that almost vanished from history.
